Guidant Global take on the Royal Navy in Charity Dragon Boat Race

#TeamGuidant recently joined in on the annual Corporate Charity Dragon Boat Race, organised by our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) partners Lorien, SRG and Carbon60, with plenty of clients in attendance.

This was in aid of Lia’s Wings, a charity that offers air transfer services when a transfer by NHS road ambulance or rotary air ambulance would either be impractical or inappropriate for the child. Lia's Wings provides air transfers using airplanes to ensure that children can access the essential care and treatment they need, wherever they are in the UK.

The event featured three heats in total across 14 teams, who each raced a 200m straight-line course. The best two times across our respective three heats were added together, and the top four went through to the semifinals, and then ultimately, the final.

After a rather poor start of 75 seconds, we managed to shave off an incredible 15 seconds in our second and third races, meaning we qualified as the second fastest team into the semis, where we faced the Royal Navy, who were too much for us! In fairness, they are the Royal Navy!

The Royal Navy went into the final with Lorien and triumphed, but only by a matter of millimetres, with Lorien scooping silver and the Navy winning Gold. We were the fastest team of the semifinalists, beating KPMG to win bronze.

Thank you to all who participated in this incredible event, supporting such a worthy cause. Click here if you would like to donate to support Lia’s Wings.
