International Women's Day: Yasmin's story

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, Client Services Manager, Yasmin Amar, shares her thoughts on this year's theme #EmbraceEquity and how she brings her authentic self to work.

​Empowering my team

I have worked at Guidant for 4½ years across different client accounts. I’ve had a great journey, progressing from a Senior Business Partner through to Client Services Manager and have had the pleasure of watching peers progress through the business and further afield.

My core role is to ensure the successful delivery of our MSP service to our clients. Each Guidant client has their own requirements, and as such we pride ourselves in delivering tailored solutions, and for me that means variety, change and empowering my team to lead with solutions and a better way.

​#EmbraceEquity is about inclusivity and actively taking steps to appreciate and support others

While being born in the UK, I am of Caribbean descent and have an appreciation and understanding of the challenges some people may face in day-to-day life as well as in the workplace. This may be in relation to biases (both unconscious and conscious) around cultural differences, customs, identity and more.

​I am proud of my heritage and everything that comes with it – Caribbean food is the best and our Soca music is guaranteed to get you dancing and the atmosphere buzzing. It would be nice to have some more of the Caribbean weather in the UK though!

Working for Guidant means I can bring my authentic self to work

I see numerous examples of this across Guidant regardless of gender, orientation, background, or religion. It comes in a variety of ways, from our people sharing their unique life experiences in our blogs, recognising specific days to support key causes, to simply establishing ambassador groups to connect like-minded individuals who want to champion DE&I.

I’d love to see this ethos mirrored across other companies – where employees are empowered to make a difference and be the difference. A company that embraces equity will be the company that attracts talent, retains talent and rises above the rest!
