The Situation

A global mining company needed one global program to improve hiring efficiency.

Seeking a single global program

A global mining company chose to partner with Guidant Global as they were seeking one global program to improve efficiency and ease of use for hiring managers who recruit for largely STEM roles globally.

Improving visibility and reporting

They were looking for global expertise to deliver a single point of contact; consistent, streamlined reporting; improved governance and greater cost controls.

Supporting STEM hiring globally

The client needed a workforce partner that could support hiring across borders while creating a more consistent experience for hiring managers and suppliers.

Programme focus
Global MSP
Guidant Global supported the client with a global program designed to improve visibility, control, governance, compliance and efficiency.
The Challenge

Limited visibility of the global contingent workforce and increased compliance risk.

The client wasn’t getting the benefits of an MSP through their regional approach. While all geographies were using SAP Fieldglass, each region used it differently and not all contingent roles were captured in the system.

01
Regional approach limiting value

The client wasn’t getting the benefits of an MSP because its program was being managed regionally rather than through one global approach.

02
Inconsistent SAP Fieldglass use

Although all geographies were using SAP Fieldglass, each region used it differently and not all contingent roles were captured in the system.

03
Limited workforce trends

Because roles were not consistently captured, global workforce trends and visibility were limited across the contingent workforce.

04
Supplier management gaps

The regional MSPs also weren’t managing the supply chain, while the client held supplier contracts directly.

05
Rising cost and business risk

Appropriate vetting and onboarding of new suppliers didn’t always occur, which drove up costs and increased business risk.

The Solution

A global program with a local approach to improve visibility, control, governance, compliance and efficiency.

While the client wanted a global program, each region had nuances and variations to meet regulatory requirements. This made the implementation complex, so the decision was made to roll it out in phases.

01 Phased global implementation +

The program was rolled out in phases, starting with APAC due to the volume of users and maturity of the program, followed by North America to ensure adoption and consistency globally.

02 Discovery with stakeholders +

In-depth discovery sessions were held with customer stakeholders to understand what had and hadn’t worked with the previous programs.

03 Supplier agreements renegotiated +

Supplier agreements needed to be renegotiated with Guidant to agree terms and rates, giving hiring managers greater visibility of contractor pay rates.

04 Education and change management +

Education and change management helped hiring managers and suppliers understand the benefits of using Guidant’s program rather than engaging directly to fill roles.

05 Contractor Management Solution +

The team saw a way to deliver further savings by transitioning workers to Guidant's Contractor Management Solution to reduce risk and improve contractor experiences.

06 Payroll worker transition +

As part of implementation, 139 payroll workers in Australia were transitioned to Guidant's Contractor Management Solution from an incumbent provider.

Results

Improved visibility, control, governance, compliance and efficiency across the global program.

Guidant Global is now the single point of contact for corporate head office white collar labour requirements for the client globally, as well as supporting several product groups. Since Go Live in August 2021, the program has filled 1,882 roles and growing, across 139 job titles with 57% of those roles in STEM.

Consistent workforce visibility

The global program has delivered consistent visibility of the workforce and associated spend globally and across borders.

Streamlined hiring process

Hiring managers now follow a clear, defined process through a single point of contact rather than contacting individual suppliers directly.

Reduced time to fill

Average time to fill has reduced from 60 days before the program was implemented to an average of 27 days.

Reduced supplier risk

The program has reduced risk through effective supplier vetting and management, and accurate worker classification.

Supporting this is Guidant's dedicated Contractor Management team, which enables the rapid digital onboarding of workers in Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, while ensuring 100% worker compliance and payroll services for 453 workers.

The Future

Trust and collaboration enables continued expansion.

Bringing the power of collaboration through Impellam’s brands to the table and building trust through an open, transparent approach has led to an expansion of the program into one of the client’s biggest business units in Australia.

Expanding into a major business unit

The program has expanded into one of the client’s biggest business units in Australia, strengthening the partnership and extending the value delivered.

Supporting mining sites and office roles

Guidant now manages the supply of white-collar labour to mining sites as well as office-based roles.

Managing FIFO workforce complexity

This includes managing the complexities of a Fly-In-Fly-Out workforce and adherence to strict worker compliance requirements.

The growth and partnership with the client demonstrate how integrated, collaborative workforce solutions deliver customer value across borders and brands.
